Vima was co-created by Xavier Quesada Allué and Joke Vandemaele. Most of the original thinking was triggered by Agile coaching and consulting work done by Joke and Xavier in 2014 at Tower Automotive and Johnson Controls Ghent, two Belgian factories supplying parts to Volvo Cars. The idea of visualizing work on a calendar or timeline was inspired by our 2010 “Visual management for having a baby” experience report. Xavier and Joke have presented their ideas and case studies at several conferences since then (Agile Spain, Agile Tour Brussels, Scrum Gathering London).
Xavier later went on to further develop, refine and publish the ideas into a formal framework with Joke’s support.
